Steam heat often requires a very wide differential adjustment of perhaps 8 degrees (anticipator.) As electronic thermostats often are more precise, many are not compatible as the temperature swing would be wide. Steam systems were invented before thermostats of any kind, the stoker was the thermostat. Find one with a steam setting.
