I had a 40 gallon Crown Mega-Stor indirect hot water heater installed yesterday, replacing an electric hot water heater. They essentially added another zone to my one zone system, using a second pump rather than zone valves. The plumbers seemed unsure of themselves, and later apologized for taking so much time for the installation (12 hours for two plumbers). I have a couple of questions for the experts here:
1) They replaced my old aquastat with a Honeywell L8124A. I see in the instructions that this is supposed to be mounted vertically. They mounted it horizontally, apparently because the existing wires were not long enough to accommodate a vertical installation. What effect will this mounting have on the operation of the aquastat? (It seems to be working OK).
2) I want the indirect hot water heater to have priority over the heating zone. I don't see anything in the instructions that addresses zone priorities. Is there a setting on the aquastat that will ensure this?
