New steam boilers are more efficient and steam faster. The installer may have though he was doing you a favor by raising the pressure over 2 psig; If so, have him lower it below 2 psig. Overpressure will make flooding and banging.
Also, read the service and installation manual that comes in the box with the boiler to check that the Hartford Loop and newr-boiler-piping is as recommended by the factory. Incorrect piping makes flooding and banging. You can see a picture if improper and proper piping at:
