In Reply to: Should I replace an old steam boiler? posted by Andrey on September 07, 2001 at 10:11:18:
: Hi everybody,
: So glad I came accross this mailing list! I went through all the wonderful stuff but still puzzled with my question.
: I have an old steam boiler. According to the inspector about 70 years old. I've heard this kind being referred to as "showman" by realtors. That's all I know about it. Overall it works, but I feel it's extremly inefficient. It takes about an hour before any heat is delivered into the house and the heating bill can rise to about $300-$350 for 1,600 sd foot house on a cold New England winter month. I do all the maintenance incduding vacuuming inside. The steam pressure is adjusted to stay within 1-2 PSI.
: Considering the above mentioned, I wonder if someone who went through a boiler replacement can provide numbers of what the cost of the replacement was and what the net saving in the heating bill resulted after.
: Just trying to make my mind; any advise is welcome!
: Thank you
