I'm in the process of purchasing a home with a 50+ year old gas fired steam boiler and I desparately need help (there isn't much consumer information out there on the web).
First, approximately how much lower (in percentage terms) do you think I could lower my gas bill with a new boiler?
Also, I wanted to find a nice, "Energy Star" rated steam boiler, but I can NOT find one. What is it about steam that makes it so inefficient? Also, I noticed that the manufacturers give much more limited warranties on steam boilers as opposed to water boilers. Why? Are steam boilers more prone to need repair?
Last, can someone recommend a good, efficient gas fired steam boiler? I have NO idea what make one better than another.
