I have a question about boiler insulation. My 1974 Crown steam boiler has the original very thin insulation under the jacket. When the unit is running, the jacket gets so hot you can't touch it. I would think that keeping the heat inside would be more efficient. Would it be worthwhile re-insulating with a heavier material? Is there a downside to this? And finally, where can I get the insulation, such as any supply house?
