I rent, what can I do about very noisy steam radiators

All my steam, one pipe radiators make noise. This noise is a loud hi-pitched whistling noise from the release valves. The noise is so loud it wakes me at night and in the morning. It is also embarrassing when I have guests over. What can I do or what should I be able to expect from my landlord to resolve this problem? Can anyone please give me any suggestions?
